When a person places their faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, they receive the Holy Spirit and are joined to the body of Christ, the church of Jesus Christ made up of all of those from all time who are in Christ. This is the universal church. Believers also have the privilege of joining as members of a local expression of the body of Christ, the local church, where they are able to receive and reflect the love of Christ.
